It is easy to realize that you’ve fallen behind in your studies and it can become slightly overwhelming. However, it is important to stay calm and not to panic. With a little self discipline and a lot of hard work, you can easily get caught up again. Below are 5 ways to help you find your way again.

1. Don’t panic and relax

Before starting any piece of work, it is important to ensure that you are relaxed. Panicking and starting work will only mean that you’ll be working badly and the information won’t be retained as effectively as possible. This will be the opposite result of what you want. For effective studying, try to ensure that you are composed.

2. Plan and schedule

In order to try and catch up on studies as much as possible, you have to free up some time from your schedule. List everything that needs to be done in a well presented manner. This will allow your mind to have space to think about everything that needs to be done and to view it in a simple and easy way.

3.Prioritize

Prioritize important assignments and/or exams. Focus on these as it will be wise to concentrate on the work that will give you the most marks. It will be useful to make a list prioritizing which work will need to be attended to immediately. Number these from 1-10, making 1 the highest priority. This will efficiently allow you to organize and study more effectively.

4.Seek help in tutors or counsellors at university

If you feel that you cannot do the work and it is taking a toll on your mental health then seek help with a trusted senior member of the university. This can be any of your class tutors, who are there to help you and guide you. They can offer sound advice to deal with your issue better. If you are not comfortable speaking to your tutor, there should be counsellors who are specialized in dealing with student issues. They are also there to support you so you can be confident to confide in them.

5.Recognize what made you fall behind and tackle the root of the problem

It is important to recognize that you have fallen behind studies for a reason. Try to identify the source of the problem. This will help you recognize the root of the problem and it will help you avoid it in the future. Identifying this will also help you understand why you have fallen behind so you can hold yourself accountable. However, although holding yourself accountable is important, try not to be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes and they are not catastrophic as long as you learn from them.
